Operational & site audits for Adelaide businesses

Most businesses have blind spots — processes that have drifted, compliance gaps nobody's checked, or costs that have crept up without anyone noticing. An operational or site audit gives you a clear, honest picture of how things are really running. We come in, take a proper look, and tell you what needs attention — plain English, no sugar-coating.

What is an operational or site audit?

An operational audit is a structured review of how your business actually works day to day — your processes, your people, your tools, and your compliance. A site audit adds a physical walkthrough of your premises, checking safety, layout, equipment and working conditions. The goal is simple: find the inefficiencies, the risks, and the opportunities that are hard to see from the inside.

What we cover

Process review

We map your key workflows and identify where bottlenecks, duplication or manual workarounds are costing you time.

Compliance check

We review your obligations — WHS, Fair Work, licensing, data handling — and flag anything that's not up to scratch.

Site walkthrough

A physical inspection of your premises covering safety, signage, equipment condition and general housekeeping.

Cost & waste analysis

We look at where money is going and whether you're getting value — subscriptions, suppliers, duplicated tools.

Risk identification

We highlight operational risks — single points of failure, undocumented processes, key-person dependencies.

Recommendations report

A clear, prioritised list of what to fix, improve or investigate further — with effort and impact ratings.

Who it's for

  • Businesses that haven't had an independent review of their operations in years.
  • Owners who suspect things aren't running as well as they could but can't pinpoint why.
  • Companies preparing for growth, a lease renewal or a compliance review.
  • Multi-site businesses that need consistency and visibility across locations.

How it works

  1. Briefing. We learn about your business, your concerns, and what you want the audit to focus on.
  2. Document & data review. We look at your policies, procedures, records and financials before setting foot on-site.
  3. On-site assessment. We walk your premises, observe workflows, and talk to your team to understand how things actually run.
  4. Findings report. You get a plain-English report with clear findings, risk ratings and prioritised recommendations.
  5. Debrief & action planning. We walk you through the report and help you plan what to tackle first.

Why WaTo for operational audits

  • A real person answers — not a call queue or a chatbot.
  • We look at the whole picture — process, technology, people and premises — not just one slice.
  • Findings come in plain English with practical next steps, not jargon-heavy consulting decks.
  • We know Adelaide businesses — the regulations, the conditions, the local landscape.
  • Adelaide owned since 2001, with experience across offices, retail, warehouses and trade environments.

Operational audit questions

How long does an audit take?

A small single-site business might take a day or two on-site plus a few days for the report. Larger or multi-site operations take longer — we'll scope it with you up front.

Will the audit disrupt our staff?

We keep it low-key. We might chat with a few team members and observe workflows, but we're not looking to get in anyone's way.

Is this a financial audit?

No. We focus on operations, processes and compliance — not your books. If we spot something financial that needs attention, we'll flag it and suggest you speak to your accountant.

What happens after we get the report?

We walk you through it, help you prioritise, and can stick around to help implement changes if you'd like. The report is yours to act on at your own pace.

Ready for an honest look at how things are running?

Get in touch and we'll scope an audit that's focused on what matters most to your business.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
