Planned maintenance for currency equipment — Adelaide, national service

WaTo runs scheduled preventive maintenance programs for coin machines, note counters, currency scales and related cash-handling equipment. Instead of waiting for a machine to jam mid-shift or a counter to start throwing errors, we service on a regular schedule — cleaning, calibrating, replacing wear parts and catching problems early. Adelaide-based, servicing nationally since 2001.

What is planned maintenance?

Planned maintenance — sometimes called PMS or preventive maintenance — is a scheduled service program for your currency equipment. At regular intervals, a technician visits your site to clean, inspect, calibrate and replace wear components before they fail. It's the difference between a machine that stops during your busiest cash-up and one that runs reliably all year. It also extends equipment life and keeps your accuracy figures audit-ready.

What we cover

Scheduled cleaning

Dust, coin residue and note fibres build up inside machines and cause miscounts and jams — we clean sensors, hoppers and feed paths at every visit.

Calibration checks

Counting accuracy and scale precision are verified against reference standards and adjusted if they've drifted.

Wear part replacement

Belts, rollers, seals and other components that wear over time are replaced on schedule — before they cause a breakdown.

Firmware and software updates

We apply manufacturer updates to keep detection algorithms current and address known bugs.

Condition reporting

After each visit you get a service report covering what was done, what was found and anything that needs watching.

Priority response

PMS clients get priority access to our repair team if something goes wrong between scheduled visits.

Who it's for

  • Banks and credit unions with branch networks that need consistent equipment reliability across all sites.
  • RSLs, clubs and casinos where machine downtime directly costs revenue.
  • Retail chains running multiple coin and note machines across stores.
  • Any cash-handling business that wants to stop reacting to breakdowns and start preventing them.

How it works

  1. We audit your equipment. A baseline check of every machine — make, model, age, condition and current service history.
  2. We design a maintenance schedule. Visit frequency based on your usage, equipment age and manufacturer recommendations — quarterly, six-monthly or annual.
  3. We schedule visits around your operations. Technicians arrive at times that don't interrupt your cash processing — early mornings, after close, or between shifts.
  4. We service and report. Each visit includes cleaning, calibration, wear part checks and a written report for your records.
  5. We adapt the plan over time. As equipment ages or your operation changes, we adjust frequencies and scope to match.

Why WaTo for planned maintenance

  • We've been maintaining currency equipment across Australia for over two decades — we know what fails, when and why.
  • Genuine spare parts carried by our technicians so common replacements happen in the same visit.
  • PMS clients get priority call-out response if something fails between scheduled services.
  • One consistent team servicing your equipment — technicians who know your machines and your site.
  • Clear, written service reports after every visit — useful for compliance, budgeting and asset management.

Planned maintenance questions

How often should currency equipment be serviced?

It depends on usage. High-volume environments like banks and CIT depots typically need quarterly servicing. Clubs and retail sites with moderate use often run well on six-monthly visits. We'll recommend a schedule based on your actual throughput and equipment age.

What happens if a machine breaks down between services?

PMS clients get priority response. Call us and we'll have a technician to your site as quickly as possible — usually same day in metro areas, next business day for regional sites.

Can you maintain equipment from any manufacturer?

We service all major brands of coin machines, note counters and currency scales used in Australia. If we haven't worked on your specific model before, we'll tell you upfront.

Is planned maintenance cheaper than just calling for repairs?

Almost always. Preventive servicing catches small problems before they become expensive breakdowns, extends equipment life and avoids the revenue cost of unexpected downtime. Most clients find PMS pays for itself within the first year.

Ready to stop reacting and start preventing?

Let's put together a maintenance plan that keeps your currency equipment running — before something stops it.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
