Childcare iPad lockdown and kiosk builds in Adelaide
WaTo builds locked-down iPad setups for childcare centres, configured in single-app or kiosk mode so kids, parents and visitors can only access what they're supposed to. Whether it's a sign-in kiosk in the foyer, learning apps in the playroom, or a parent communication station, we handle the supervision, configuration and ongoing management. Adelaide-based, working with centres across South Australia.

What is a childcare iPad lockdown?
A childcare iPad lockdown takes a standard iPad and restricts it to one app or a small set of approved apps using Apple's supervised mode and mobile device management (MDM). The home button, settings, notifications and the App Store are all hidden, so a three-year-old can't accidentally order a pizza or delete your sign-in system. It turns an everyday tablet into a purpose-built kiosk that's safe, predictable and easy to manage.
What we deliver
Supervised iPad configuration
Every iPad is enrolled through Apple Business Manager and supervised via MDM, which gives you full remote control over apps, settings and restrictions.
Single-app kiosk mode
We lock each iPad to one app (your sign-in system, a learning platform, or a parent communication tool) and users have no way to escape to other apps.
Multi-app kiosk profiles
When one app isn't enough, we build profiles that allow a curated set of approved apps while blocking everything else, including web browsing, settings and the App Store.
Mounting and enclosure setup
We help you choose tamper-proof enclosures and wall mounts that suit your foyer, rooms or outdoor areas, and install them properly.
Content and app deployment
Apps are pushed silently to each iPad from a central console. You don't need Apple IDs or manual installs, and nobody has to fiddle around at each device.
Ongoing MDM management
We monitor battery health, push app updates, adjust restrictions and troubleshoot remotely, so your team doesn't need to be tech-savvy to keep things running.
Who it's for
- Long day care and early learning centres needing sign-in kiosks for parents and visitors.
- OSHC and vacation care programs using iPads for educational apps and activities.
- Family day care coordinators managing shared devices across multiple homes.
- Multi-site childcare operators who need consistent, centrally managed iPad setups across all locations.
How it works
- We map out what each iPad needs to do. A quick conversation about your centre: which rooms need devices, what apps you use, and how parents and staff interact with them.
- We procure and enrol the hardware. iPads are purchased through Apple Business Manager and automatically enrolled into your MDM profile before they even leave the box.
- We configure profiles and restrictions. Each iPad gets a tailored profile, locked to the right apps, connected to your Wi-Fi, and stripped of anything that shouldn't be there.
- We install on-site with enclosures. Devices are mounted, powered, tested and handed over ready to go, and your team gets a walkthrough of how everything works.
- We manage and update remotely. App updates, policy changes and troubleshooting happen from our end. If an iPad plays up, we usually fix it before you notice.

- We work with childcare software like Xplor, Storypark and QikKids, not just generic MDM setups.
Childcare iPad lockdown questions
Can kids break out of kiosk mode?
No. When an iPad is properly supervised and locked to single-app mode via MDM, there's no way to exit the app, access settings or press the home button to get somewhere else. It's a hardware-level restriction, not just a screen lock.
What happens if an iPad is factory reset?
Because the iPad is enrolled through Apple Business Manager, a factory reset forces it straight back into your MDM profile during setup. It can't be wiped and used as a personal device. It always comes back to your control.
Do we need Apple IDs on each iPad?
No. Apps are deployed silently through your MDM console using device-based licences from Apple Business Manager, so there are no Apple IDs, password prompts or App Store access to deal with.
Can you set up iPads we already own?
Usually, yes. If your existing iPads are recent enough to support current iOS and can be enrolled via Apple Configurator, we can bring them into supervised mode. We'll check compatibility during the planning stage.
