Workplace policy advice for Adelaide businesses

Every business needs clear policies — for compliance, for consistency, and for when things go sideways. But most small businesses either don't have them, or have a folder of outdated templates that no one's looked at since 2015. We help Adelaide businesses write, review and maintain workplace policies that meet their legal obligations and actually make sense for how they operate.

What is workplace policy advice?

Workplace policy advice is about getting your internal rules and procedures right. That covers everything from leave and attendance to bullying and harassment, work health and safety, social media use, remote work arrangements, and code of conduct. Good policies protect your business, set clear expectations for staff, and keep you on the right side of Fair Work and WHS legislation.

What we cover

Policy drafting

We write clear, practical policies tailored to your business — not generic templates copied off the internet.

Policy review & update

We check your existing policies against current legislation and flag anything that's outdated, missing or unclear.

Fair Work alignment

We make sure your policies reflect current Fair Work obligations, including recent changes like the right to disconnect.

WHS documentation

Workplace health and safety policies, procedures and risk registers that meet South Australian requirements.

Staff handbook compilation

We pull your policies into a single, readable handbook that new starters can actually understand.

Rollout support

We help you communicate new or updated policies to your team so they're understood and adopted.

Who it's for

  • Small businesses that don't have an HR team and need help getting their policies in order.
  • Growing companies that have outgrown informal rules and need things written down.
  • Businesses that haven't reviewed their policies in years and want to check they're still compliant.
  • Any Adelaide employer who wants clear expectations and fewer workplace disputes.

How it works

  1. Policy audit. We review what you've got — existing policies, handbooks, contracts — and identify the gaps.
  2. Priority list. We flag which policies are missing, which need updating, and which are fine as they are.
  3. Drafting & review. We write or rewrite the policies you need, in plain language, tailored to your workplace.
  4. Your sign-off. You review and approve everything before it goes to your team — nothing gets published without your say-so.
  5. Rollout & ongoing updates. We help you communicate the policies to staff and flag when legislative changes mean something needs refreshing.

Why WaTo for workplace policy

  • A real person answers — not a call queue or a chatbot.
  • We write policies in plain English that your team will actually read and understand.
  • We stay across Fair Work and WHS changes so you don't have to — including the 2026 payday super requirements.
  • We know Adelaide workplaces — the industries, the award structures, the local obligations.
  • Adelaide owned since 2001, helping local businesses stay compliant and well-organised.

Workplace policy questions

What policies does a small business actually need?

At a minimum, you need a code of conduct, WHS policy, anti-bullying and harassment policy, leave policy, and a privacy policy. Beyond that, it depends on your industry and how your team works — remote work, social media and drug and alcohol policies are common additions.

Can you review policies we already have?

Yes. We'll check them against current legislation, flag anything that's out of date, and recommend specific changes.

Do we need a lawyer for this?

For most standard policies, no. We produce practical, compliant documents based on current legislation and Fair Work guidelines. If something requires formal legal advice — like a complex enterprise agreement — we'll tell you.

How often should we update our policies?

At least once a year, or whenever there's a significant legislative change. We can set up a review schedule so nothing falls through the cracks.

Ready to get your policies sorted?

Tell us where things stand and we'll help you build a set of policies that protect your business and work for your team.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
