Technology advisory for Adelaide businesses

Technology moves fast and the options are endless — but your budget and your team's patience aren't. We give Adelaide businesses straight, vendor-neutral advice on what technology to invest in, what to hold off on and how to get more from what you've already got. No sales pitch, just practical direction.

What is technology advisory?

Technology advisory is independent advice on how to use technology to run your business better. It covers everything from choosing the right platforms and tools to planning IT budgets, assessing new trends and deciding when to upgrade or hold steady. The goal is a clear technology direction that fits your business — not chasing every shiny new thing. We act as your sounding board, so you make confident decisions instead of expensive guesses.

What we cover

IT roadmapping

A practical plan for your technology over the next one to three years — what to invest in, when and why.

Tool and platform selection

Vendor-neutral recommendations on software, cloud platforms and hardware that fit your business and your budget.

Technology health check

A review of what you're running now — what's working, what's end-of-life and where you're spending more than you need to.

Cloud & digital strategy

Practical guidance on cloud adoption, remote work, digital tools and how far to take it for your situation.

Budget and spend review

A look at where your IT dollars go and where you could save, consolidate or invest more wisely.

AI and emerging tech guidance

Plain-English advice on whether AI tools, automation or other new technology makes sense for your business right now.

Who it's for

  • Business owners making technology decisions without an in-house IT leader.
  • Growing businesses whose technology hasn't kept pace and need a plan to catch up.
  • Organisations evaluating cloud, AI or automation and wanting an honest second opinion.
  • Any Adelaide business tired of being sold to and wanting straight advice instead.

How it works

  1. A conversation about your business. We learn what you do, how technology fits in and where the frustrations are.
  2. Review your current setup. We assess what you're running, what you're paying and where the gaps or waste sit.
  3. Recommendations. Clear, prioritised advice on what to do — written in plain English, not a technical report.
  4. Roadmap. A practical timeline for changes, investments and milestones that fits your budget and capacity.
  5. Ongoing advice. We stay available as your technology sounding board — call us before you buy, not after.

Why WaTo for technology advisory

  • Vendor-neutral — we recommend what's right for you, not what earns us a commission.
  • We've been advising Adelaide businesses since 2001 — we've seen what works and what doesn't.
  • Practical, not academic — advice you can act on this quarter, not a strategy document for the shelf.
  • We understand small and mid-sized business budgets — every dollar counts.
  • One team for advice and implementation — if you want us to do the work too, we can.

Technology advisory questions

Do we need advisory if we already have IT support?

IT support keeps things running. Advisory helps you decide where to go next. They're different jobs — and many businesses have support but no one steering the ship on strategy.

Is this just for big businesses?

Not at all. Small businesses often benefit the most because a wrong technology decision hits harder when the budget is tight. We scale our advice to your size.

Will you push us to buy things?

No. If your current setup works, we'll tell you that. We'd rather save you money now and earn your trust for when you do need to invest.

Can you help us implement your recommendations?

Yes. We can advise only, or handle the implementation too — whichever you prefer. One team, either way.

Ready for straight technology advice?

Tell us where you're at and we'll give you an honest view of where to go next.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do your plans and pricing work?

Whatever suits you — a fixed contract, a monthly retainer, prepaid blocks of hours, or simple hourly rates. You pick the model that fits your business, and we keep it transparent with no surprise bills.

How quickly do you respond?

Fast. You talk to a real person, not a call queue — and for urgent issues we're often on-site within the hour across Adelaide, with remote support Australia-wide.

Do you only do IT support?

No — IT & Digital, cyber security, websites & hosting (via Whosts.au), business solutions and currency equipment, all from one local team. One number to call.

What does it cost?

It depends on your size and the cover you need. We keep pricing simple and transparent, with no surprise bills — call us for a tailored quote.

Do you support businesses outside Adelaide?

Yes. We're Adelaide-based and provide remote support Australia-wide, with on-site visits across South Australia.

Will you work with our existing IT person?

Absolutely. We often co-manage — taking on monitoring, security and after-hours cover alongside your in-house team.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
