What is domain registration?
Domain registration is the process of securing a web address (like yourbusiness.com.au) so nobody else can use it. You register it through an accredited registrar for a set period, usually one or two years, and renew it to keep it. Your domain is the foundation of your online presence. It's what people type to find you, what appears in your email address and what search engines index. Losing it or letting it lapse can be a real headache.

Who it's for
- Adelaide businesses registering a domain for the first time and wanting guidance on the right extension.
- Business owners who want their domain managed by the same team that handles their website and hosting.
- Companies moving away from a registrar with inflated renewal prices or poor support.
- Organisations managing multiple domains that need everything consolidated with one provider.
How it works
- Search for your domain. Tell us what you're after and we'll check availability across the extensions that make sense for your business.
- Register or transfer. We register your new domain or initiate a transfer from your current registrar, with no downtime either way.
- DNS configuration. Your domain pointed to the right servers with all the DNS records (website, email, verification) set up correctly.
- Connect to hosting. If you're hosting with us on Whosts.au, your domain is linked to your hosting account automatically.
- Ongoing management. Auto-renewal set up, DNS changes handled when needed and a clear record of all your domains and their expiry dates.

Domain registration questions
How much does a .com.au domain cost?
A .com.au domain typically costs between $15 and $30 per year depending on the registrar. We offer competitive pricing without the bait-and-switch renewal markups that bigger providers are known for.
Can I transfer my domain to you?
Yes. As long as your domain has been active for at least 60 days and isn't currently locked, we can transfer it. The process usually takes a few days and there's no impact on your site or email.
What's the difference between .com.au and .au?
Both are Australian extensions. The .com.au has been around longer and is the most recognised. The shorter .au extension is newer and available to Australian entities. We usually recommend securing both to protect your brand.
What happens if I forget to renew my domain?
You'll have a grace period to renew, but after that your domain can be released and registered by someone else. We set up auto-renewal and send reminders well in advance so this doesn't happen.
