Co-managed IT services in Adelaide

Your IT person is good at their job — but they can't be an expert in everything, available around the clock, and still get through their project list. Co-managed IT means we work alongside your internal team, picking up the things they don't have time for or need a hand with, without taking over.

What is co-managed IT?

Co-managed IT is a partnership between your internal IT staff and an external team like us. Instead of fully outsourcing your IT or leaving one person to handle everything, you split the workload. Your team keeps the knowledge and control they already have, and we fill in the gaps — whether that's helpdesk overflow, security, after-hours monitoring, or project work. You decide who does what.

What we cover alongside your team

Helpdesk overflow

When your IT person is flat out or on leave, we handle the tickets so nothing sits in a queue.

Security & patching

We manage updates, endpoint protection and security monitoring so your team can focus on bigger work.

After-hours monitoring

We watch your systems outside business hours — alerts, outages and incidents handled while your team's off the clock.

Project support

Extra hands for migrations, rollouts and infrastructure changes without hiring a contractor.

Backup & disaster recovery

We set up and monitor backups so your internal team isn't the only one watching the safety net.

Escalation & specialist access

When your team hits something outside their skillset, they escalate to us instead of Googling it at midnight.

Who it's for

  • Businesses with one IT person who's stretched too thin.
  • Companies with a small IT team that needs specialist backup for security, cloud or projects.
  • Organisations that want to keep internal IT knowledge but need after-hours and overflow cover.
  • Growing businesses that aren't ready to hire another full-time IT role.

How it works

  1. We meet your team. A conversation with your IT person to understand what they handle and where the gaps are.
  2. We agree who does what. A clear split of responsibilities — documented, not assumed — so nothing falls through the cracks.
  3. We plug in. Access to your tools, ticketing and monitoring so we work alongside your team, not around them.
  4. Shared visibility. Both teams see the same dashboards, tickets and alerts — no surprises on either side.
  5. Regular check-ins. We review what's working, adjust the split, and plan ahead together.

Why WaTo for co-managed IT

  • We work with your team, not over them — your IT person stays in control.
  • Flexible scope that adjusts as your needs change — scale up or down without a new contract.
  • One local team who knows Adelaide business, not a faceless national helpdesk.
  • Broad skills across security, cloud, networking and support — so your team has backup wherever they need it.
  • Adelaide owned since 2001, supporting businesses across SA and Australia-wide remotely.

Co-managed IT questions

Will you replace our internal IT person?

No — the whole point is to support them, not sideline them. They keep doing what they're good at and we handle the rest.

How do we decide who does what?

Together. We map out responsibilities based on what your team wants to keep, what they want to hand off, and what needs covering overnight or during leave.

Can we start small and expand later?

Absolutely. Most businesses start with one or two things — like after-hours monitoring or helpdesk overflow — and add more when they're ready.

What if we eventually want fully managed IT?

Easy transition. Because we already know your systems, switching from co-managed to fully managed is straightforward if that's where you end up.

Ready to give your IT team some backup?

Tell us what your team's juggling and we'll work out where we can help — no pressure, no takeover.

No two businesses are the same — so nothing we do is off-the-shelf. Every solution is built around yours, and kept simple.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do your plans and pricing work?

Whatever suits you — a fixed contract, a monthly retainer, prepaid blocks of hours, or simple hourly rates. You pick the model that fits your business, and we keep it transparent with no surprise bills.

How quickly do you respond?

Fast. You talk to a real person, not a call queue — and for urgent issues we're often on-site within the hour across Adelaide, with remote support Australia-wide.

Do you only do IT support?

No — IT & Digital, cyber security, websites & hosting (via Whosts.au), business solutions and currency equipment, all from one local team. One number to call.

What does it cost?

It depends on your size and the cover you need. We keep pricing simple and transparent, with no surprise bills — call us for a tailored quote.

Do you support businesses outside Adelaide?

Yes. We're Adelaide-based and provide remote support Australia-wide, with on-site visits across South Australia.

Will you work with our existing IT person?

Absolutely. We often co-manage — taking on monitoring, security and after-hours cover alongside your in-house team.

Our story

Built in Adelaide, since 2001

WaTo Consulting was founded by John Watson in Adelaide in 2001. Over two decades it's earned a name for tailored work across a wide range of industries — helping businesses of every size run more smoothly, work more efficiently and grow steadily, without blowing the budget or disrupting the day-to-day.

Emma Watson (née Dickenson) played a significant part in shaping what WaTo became. She brought real expertise and a clear vision for where it could go — expanding the business, bringing in new systems and fresh thinking, and raising the standard of how things are done. A great deal of what WaTo is, we owe to her.

Today it's all tailored, never off-the-shelf — IT & Digital, Business & Web Hosting, built around what each client actually needs. Over the years those areas have come together under one roof: our IT & Digital, Currency, Business and Web work (through Whosts.au) now all sit within WaTo Consulting — one team, one standard, looking after the lot.

When you work with us, you're not a client — you're a partner.
