Calibration and firmware updates for currency equipment in Adelaide and nationally
Currency equipment drifts over time. Sensors wear, reference points shift and counting accuracy drops, usually so gradually that no one notices until a reconciliation doesn't balance. WaTo provides on-site calibration and firmware updates for coin machines, note counters and currency scales across Australia, keeping your gear accurate and your figures trustworthy. Adelaide-based since 2001.

What are calibration and firmware updates?
Calibration is the process of checking a machine's measurements against a known reference standard and adjusting it back to spec. For currency equipment, that means verifying that scales weigh correctly, counters count accurately and counterfeit sensors detect properly. Firmware updates are software patches from the manufacturer that fix bugs, improve detection algorithms and keep machines compatible with new currency features, like changes to polymer banknote security elements.
What we cover
Scale calibration
Precision currency scales checked against traceable reference weights and adjusted to ensure accurate coin and note counts.
Counter accuracy verification
Coin machines and note counters tested with controlled batches to confirm counting accuracy across all denominations.
Counterfeit sensor calibration
UV, magnetic and infrared detection sensors checked and recalibrated to maintain reliable counterfeit rejection rates.
Firmware updates
Manufacturer software patches applied on-site: bug fixes, algorithm improvements and updates for new banknote security features.
Traceable documentation
Calibration certificates and records referencing traceable standards, ready for your auditors and compliance team.
Multi-site rollouts
Firmware updates and calibration programs coordinated across multiple sites so your whole fleet is consistent.
Who it's for
- Banks and cash centres where counting accuracy is audited and must be demonstrably correct.

- Retail and CIT businesses that need confidence in their daily cash figures.
- Any business with currency equipment that hasn't been calibrated in the last twelve months.
How it works
- We review your equipment list. Make, model, age and last known calibration date for each machine, so we come prepared.
- We schedule site visits. At times that suit your operations, with enough time allocated to do the job properly without rushing.
- We calibrate and update. Each machine is tested, adjusted to spec, and updated with any available firmware patches from the manufacturer.
- We issue certificates. Written calibration records referencing traceable standards, filed for your compliance and audit requirements.
- We set the next date. A recommended recalibration interval based on your usage, equipment type and any regulatory requirements.

Calibration questions
How often should currency equipment be calibrated?
Scales should typically be calibrated every six to twelve months depending on usage. Note counters and coin machines should have accuracy verified at least annually. High-volume environments like banks and CIT depots often need more frequent checks. We'll recommend the right interval for your setup.
Why do firmware updates matter?
Firmware updates fix known bugs, improve counting algorithms and, importantly for Australian currency, update detection parameters when the RBA changes banknote security features. Without updates, your machine may reject genuine notes or miss counterfeits.
Do you provide calibration certificates?
Yes. Every calibration comes with a written record referencing traceable standards, including the date, technician, results and any adjustments made. These are suitable for compliance and audit purposes.
Can you calibrate equipment you didn't supply?
In most cases, yes. We calibrate and update firmware on all major brands of currency equipment used in Australia. Let us know the make and model and we'll confirm.
