Is an AI-coded website safer than WordPress?
More business owners are asking us whether a website written with AI tools, often called a vibe coded site, is safer than the WordPress site they have now. For a normal business site the answer is often yes, because of the way a code site is built. Who typed the code matters much less. The other half of the answer matters just as much. A WordPress site that someone stays on top of is a safe site, and we look after WordPress sites every bit as carefully as the code sites we build. You do not have to move to AI code to be safe.

The short answer
An AI-coded site is often safer than WordPress because there is less to attack. A WordPress site runs a program on every visit, with plugins, a database and a login page that all need updating. A code site is finished pages on the server. A WordPress site that is kept updated, backed up and watched is also safe. WaTo Consulting in Adelaide maintains WordPress sites and builds code sites, so you can stay or move.
What to consider
WordPress runs on every visit
A WordPress site is a program. Each time someone visits, WordPress, its theme, its plugins and its database build the page on the spot. Every one of those parts needs updates, and each can be a way in.
Plugins are where most holes are
Patchstack's State of WordPress Security in 2026 report counted 11,334 new security holes in WordPress software during 2025. It found 91% of them in plugins, the add-ons made by many different companies.
A code site is finished pages
The pages are built once, before launch, and then sit on the server as plain files. A code site has no plugins or database to patch, and no public login page where someone can guess passwords.
It is quick as well
Nothing has to be worked out when a visitor arrives, so pages load quickly. That helps people on phones and slow connections, and Google takes speed into account when ranking pages. Our guide on whether AI-coded websites show up on Google covers being found.
AI code needs a person checking it
AI-written code is only as safe as the people checking it. Published without review, it can carry real mistakes, such as a secret key left where anyone can read it or a form that accepts whatever is typed into it.
Staying on WordPress is safe too
The risk with WordPress comes from updates being missed. When someone stays on top of them, the site is in good shape. Our website maintenance plans test each update with a backup taken first, apply security patches, keep daily off-site backups and watch that the site stays up. For online shops, memberships and busy blogs, staying is usually the better choice.
Who this guide is for
- Business owners with a WordPress site that mostly shows pages and takes enquiries.
- Anyone who has paid for a hack clean-up or an emergency fix and does not want to do it again.
- Owners who have been offered a vibe coded website and want to know if it is safe to trust.
- Businesses tired of paying for monthly updates and plugin licence renewals.
What to do next
- List what your site does. Write down what visitors can do on it, such as read pages, send an enquiry, book, buy or log in. A site that only shows pages and takes enquiries suits a code site well.
- Count your plugins. Ask whoever looks after the site how many plugins it runs and when they were last updated. Our guide on why WordPress sites break explains what that number means for you.
- Ask who checks the code. If someone offers you an AI-built site, ask who reads and tests the code before it goes live. If the answer is nobody, keep looking.
- Decide how you want to make changes. A code site has no dashboard to log in to. Changes go through us. If you would rather edit pages yourself, we can build the site on VoxelSite, where you click on words and photos to change them.
- Weigh up staying as well as moving. Keeping WordPress with proper care is a sound option, and so is a rebuild. Our guide to your options for leaving WordPress sets out every path, including staying, and a call with us will sort out which one fits.
How WaTo can help
- We look after WordPress sites as well as building code sites. With managed WordPress hosting or a maintenance plan, we stay on top of the updates, backups and security for you.
- We use AI coding tools every day, and a person reviews and tests the code before any site launches.
- If you would rather move, our WordPress rebuild service turns a typical standard WordPress site into a code site in about a week.
- We host on our own Australian servers and look after them, because a server still needs care whatever the site is built with.
- If you already have an AI-built site or app, we can review and harden it before it goes in front of customers.
- Our own site, wato.au, is built this way. We have been Adelaide owned and operated since 2001.
Related questions
Do I have to move to an AI-coded site to be safe?
No. A WordPress site that is kept updated and backed up can run safely for years, and we look after WordPress sites for businesses that want to stay. A shop, a members area or a busy blog is usually better staying put. Moving makes most sense for a small site that rarely changes and keeps costing you in repairs.
Is a vibe coded website safe?
It can be, if a person who knows what to look for has checked it. Vibe coding means describing what you want and letting an AI tool write the code. The risk is in publishing that code without review. Our guide on what vibe coding is covers this in more detail.
Can a code site still be hacked?
Yes. Any site can be. A code site is a much smaller target because there is far less running on it, but the server, the hosting account and any forms still have to be looked after. We do that as part of hosting.
What about my contact form?
A form needs a small program on the server to receive the message, called a handler. We write it carefully, keep it small and check everything people type into it before it is used.
How do I update the site without a dashboard?
You send us the change and we make it. If you would rather edit pages yourself, we can build the site with VoxelSite so you can.
What does a code site cost?
As a suggested starting range, a small site of 3 to 5 pages is $3,000 to $3,500 plus GST. Larger sites and extra features are quoted after a call. The monthly update round and the plugin licence renewals go away, and there are fewer emergency bills.
